Jessi Evans
My
name is Jessi Evans. For almost two years, I've been working as a massage
therapist
in Lawrence, Kansas.
Like so many of my clients, I have had my share of health problems. My back wasn't always in the best condition. I suffered from migranes since high school. Now, I manage these problems without drugs.
I graduated from the Pinnacle Career Institute in 2006. By the end of the year, I landed a job with a local massage therapy center. I found that working for someone else wasn't as personally satisfying as working for myself. So, I left and started seeing clients in my home office. Now I get to set my own schedule, select my clients, and manage my own business.
My office is decorated in a way that promotes relaxation. I have low lighting, soft music and a fan to block out noise that might disturb my clients. On the massage table, I have a bed warmer and soft blanket to make my clients comfortable.
I usually recommend that those receiving their first massage therapy session get a full body massage. This makes it easier to understand what is wrong with their bodies. Someone might complain of a backache, for instance, but the problem is really in her hips. It is important to help the clients get in touch with their bodies, so they can see the root of their problems.
In my spare time, I am in a local bowling league with my husband. I offer chair massages to our team, giving us what the other teams calls an "unfair" advantage. The improved circulation and relaxed muscles that the massages offer help us to bowl better.
Being a massage therapist has been a personally rewarding and fulfilling career for me. I enjoy helping others manage pain and stress without resorting to medication. I feel that massage therapy has made a big difference in my life, and in the health of my clients.
